A Wedding In The Woods

E&PCoiple6

The morning of Emma and Patrick’s wedding opened with a brooding sky of threatening rain clouds. But this would not dampen the celebration for this winsome couple.  If anything, it added to the lush and verdant theme of the day.

Every detail reflected the fresh natural surrounds of Clinton Hills which created a handsome backdrop for the enchanted gathering.

From broad expansive views to charming footpaths leading to a cathedral of towering trees and mossy forest floors.

Emma’s bouquet was an endearing combination of David Austin garden roses, lisianthus, dahlias, sweet pea and mint, accompanied by other darling garden textures.  Her bridal party carried sweet nosegays of similar flowers.

Sweet and simple scabiosa pod coupled with myrtle for the boutonnieres; wrapped with hemp twine in keeping with the fresh natural theme.

I use the word lovely a great deal…but this wedding was indeed one of the most enchanting and most lovely weddings to be a part of.

Last of summer’s blossoms ~ Emma & Derek

September is that time of year when we are greeted with crisp air and mornings wrapped in cosier clothes.  We still have a scattering of warm days but we know they are fleeting.  The threat of frost on local flower fields are a constant concern but the beauty that fills the rows makes it worth the worry.  As each season turns, I vow the new sprouting season is my absolute favourite.  My love of late summer and early fall weddings are steeped in my love of textures and big romatic garden dahlias.

Lucky for me, Emma felt the same way.  Her bouquets were bursting with all of the best parts of the season. Created with lovely earth tones, blushes and frosted greens (to hint at what’s to come) with an abundance of textures, lush dahlias and adorned with succulents.

Panache Magazine Photo Shoot

Since the snow is flying today, I thought I would reminisce on one of the warmer days of last summer.

Back in August I had the pleasure of working with a creative and inspiring group of women on a whimsical photo shoot for Panache Magazine.   There is a first time for everything and I have to say that working with a horse can now be checked off the list!

Melissa and Brett ~ Rustic Autumn Wedding

It was such a pleasure working with Melissa and Brett.  This couple had such a warm, welcoming attitude; I couldn’t imagine the bride carrying anything but sunny sunflowers.  And I am happy to say we were able to fill her bouquet  with the last of our local, seasonal textures found at Island Meadow Farm.  From local raspberry, crespidia and wheat to dainty black eyed susan and curly willow; I was over the moon to be able to add some locally grown lovelies to Melissa’s bouquet.

The maids carried simple sunflower bunches wrapped in burlap.

The groom and his men wore viking poms with seasonal textures of wheat, raspberry and dusty miller; neatly bound in hemp twine.

Gatherings of baby’s breath in clear mason jars graced the tables for this simply rustic affair.  Melissa and Brett’s table scape was designed by Sherri Stewart of  Above The Rest.

Leanne and Curtis ~ An Island Autumn Wedding

Saturday morning dawned with the crispness that let’s everyone know that autumn is indeed here.  Fresh clean air without a cloud in the sky dominated the day for Leanne and Curtis as they celebrated their special day.

Boutonnieres were viking poms, sedum and hypericum berries.
Image
Corsages for the Mothers were annabelle hydrangea, phalaenopsis, dusty miller and plume grass.  Pure and simple; delicate and elegant.

The father of the bride wore a matching boutonniere.
I want to extend a special thank you to Mr. S. who is the best helper a bustling designer could ever ask for.  He took very special care of the bride’s bouquet until it made it safely into the proper hands.

A Breezy Cottage Wedding

DSC_3178

A fresh sea breeze greeted guests to Jennifer and Terry’s intimate cottage wedding.  The day was perfect, with the billowing clouds that lingered after the previous day’s rain.  The sun shone bright as the couple celebrated with their closest family and friends.  And I am delighted to say that I also had the privilege of attending this charmed event.

The boutonnieres were created with dahlia buds, sage, dusty miller and button ferns.

It was a pleasure to work with Cheryl MacKinnon from Five Design on making Jennifer’s vision come to light.

Chantel & Jason ~ An August Wedding in Full Bloom.

Dare I say that Chantel and Jason’s wedding was one of my favourites to work on?  We created bouquets with the season and the Island in mind; from texture-driven bouquets to the finely detailed vintage lace and burlap. Locally sourced textures and flowers always make our hearts swoon as these bouquets truly reflect what is growing on the Island in late August.  Many, many heartfelt thanks to Chantel and Jason for letting Gatherings be a part of their spectacular day.

Over Hill & Dale…A Prince Edward Island Barn Wedding

A quintessential Island wedding for this sweet Scottish couple with Island roots; Gen and Lee said their vows on the beach by the sparking Gulf of Saint Lawrence, followed by an intimate reception at Clinton Hills.  The rolling hills of Clinton, Prince Edward Island make the perfect backdrop to the refurbished barn at Clinton Hills.  A perfect place to celebrate!

Gen held a cluster of Queen Anne’s Lace while Lee carried a nosegay of picasso calla lilies.  Simple and sweet.

Megan & Matt…A Beach Wedding

Image

Couples come from far and wide to be surrounded by this lovely and enchanting Island on their special day.  This particular affair was windswept and breathtaking with the best elements that the island has to offer; pristine farmlands bordered by red cliffs and an endless shoreline.  With a tent perched on the edge of a field, a sandy path invites family and friends to the ceremony on the beach.  Swaying beach grass, billowing clouds and a celebration with those nearest and dearest.  Congratulations Megan and Matt!

This wedding was a pure pleasure to work on. Lavender callas mixed with voluptuous snow white roses, dainty Eskimo roses, bupleurum and wild oregano were carried by the ladies. The men wore the most charming star fish boutonnieres coupled with bear grass and galax leaves. Perfect in every way!
