A Spring Garden Party Wedding

Blog5

Prince Edward Island is abloom and I can’t think of a better way to kick off the flowering season than a garden party inspired wedding.   The beginning of new love is celebrated with burgeoning blossoms fresh from the garden.  Watercolour hues abound while the fragrance of lily of the valley mingling with lilac is heavenly; utterly enchanting, blissfully romantic.

Fresh, Crisp and Clean ~ Green and White.

There is really no denying what my favour colour is; my heart belongs to all things green.

Maybe it’s my Irish heritage or more likely the sense of fresh and promising new growth that I find so inviting.  Green and white is indicative of the freshness of spring.  Crisp and clean; a new beginning.

Here’s hoping that winter loosens his grip on us soon and we can be surrounded in the many hues of green that come with spring.

Storm Day Inspiration

baby's breath 2

Even on this brooding storm day in March, I can find inspiration.  As the moody grey clouds hang close to the land releasing their soft snow onto the fields surrounding the farm, my thoughts are on spring and of course, flowers.

Like so many snow flakes, gypsophilia or the more commonly known baby’s breath, is more impactful when clustered together.

It’s easy to appreciate this flowers beauty when it stands on its own.  It makes my heart skip a beat when it is coupled with grey tones; sweetly understated and undeniably delicate.

The Ever Romantic Ranunculus

One of my perennial favourites is the multi petal, stunningly romantic ranunculus.  Even though the day for expressing our love has come and gone, this little darling of the garden keeps romance in the air. From the smallest fragile pinkish green varieties to the fleshy, bold double petal varieties; they are all breathtakingly enchanting.

Ranunculus is a flower that slowly reveals itself as it matures (much like an enduring relationship). Starting as a dainty globe of petals and transforming into a ruffled, voluptuous head of paper-thin petals adorned by a silky center; Classically beautiful, understated and quintessentially feminine.

So, I figure it is time to start growing these lovelies on the farm.  February is the perfect month to start thinking about breaking ground; planning and preparing for the upcoming summer garden is what gets most of us through the blustery winters.  Ranunculus, scented geranium, oregano, mint and foxglove are all on my list this year.  I cannot wait to tuck these sweethearts into this years bridal bouquets and spread the love!
